Religious Symbols & Conclusion

  • Symbol of money: Materialistic items do not depend on one's acceptance into Heaven. This is aligned with Charlie's acceptance into the Chocolate Factory. Charlie's family does not have any money, yet he is allowed into the factory. Just like poor people are allowed into Heaven if they are honourable individuals.

  • Symbol of medicine: The characters of the movies/novel are happy because laughter is the best medicine. In the novel, Jesus heals people without the use of any medical supplies. It takes emotions to heal people in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory just like in the Bible

  • Symbol of Hell to Heaven: The characters who are fighting to find a golden ticket to the Chocolate Factory are trying to leave their own lives to go into Wonka's world of the "great unknown". Their hopeless lives in the real world are comparable to hell. They want to go to a wonderful place where anything is possible.

In conclusion, I believe Roald Dahl purposely uses religion references in his novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Through lots of research I discovered that Dahl was a Catholic schoolboy and had a very religious upringing. It would only make sense for him to include Catholic symbols in his work. My site successfully correlates Roald Dahl's novel/1971 film with the Bible. I proved this through several quotations, YouTube clips, and Bible passages.
